Skinvive by Juvéderm: What It Is, What It Does and Who It Is For
There are so many injectable treatments available now that it can be difficult to understand which one is actually going to make a difference to your skin.
One treatment I particularly like for improving skin quality is Skinvive by Juvéderm.
Skinvive is a little different from traditional dermal filler. It isn't about adding volume, changing the shape of your face or creating more definition. Instead, it is designed to improve the quality of the skin itself.
For me, one of the biggest attractions of Skinvive is the way it can give the skin a healthier, more hydrated and noticeably more luminous appearance, without changing your facial features.
And importantly, the results from one treatment can last for up to 9 months, making it an appealing option for someone who wants a relatively simple treatment with long-lasting improvement in skin quality.

What Is Skinvive by Juvéderm?
Skinvive is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment from the Juvéderm range.
Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our skin and has an important role in maintaining hydration because it attracts and holds water.
Skinvive is not designed to act like a conventional dermal filler. It is injected superficially into the skin, where it helps to improve hydration and the overall quality and smoothness of the skin.
I would describe it as a skin-quality treatment rather than a volume treatment.
This makes it particularly interesting for people who feel that their skin has lost some of its freshness and luminosity, but who don't necessarily need or want additional facial volume.
What Can Skinvive Do for Your Skin?
The thing patients often notice is that their skin simply looks better.
It can help improve:
Skin hydration
Smoothness
Fine lines
Skin texture
Radiance
Luminosity
The overall healthy appearance of the skin
The result isn't supposed to be a dramatic change to your face.
In fact, that's one of the reasons I like this type of treatment. You should still look like yourself.
The difference is that your skin can look fresher, smoother and more luminous.
For some patients, it is that subtle improvement that makes them feel more confident.
The Luminosity Effect
One of the benefits I particularly like about Skinvive is the improvement in skin luminosity.
As we get older, our skin can gradually lose that natural light-reflecting quality. It can become duller, drier and less smooth.
This isn't always something that can be corrected simply by applying another moisturiser.
Skinvive works within the skin to improve hydration, which can give the complexion a fresher, more luminous appearance.
It isn't about creating an artificial shine.
It is more about bringing back that healthy-looking glow that well-hydrated skin naturally has.
Skinvive Doesn't Add Facial Volume
This is an important distinction.
If you are worried about looking overfilled or changing the shape of your face, Skinvive may be an option worth considering.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers, it isn't being used to build up the cheeks, lips, chin or jawline.
Instead, the treatment is aimed at improving the skin itself.
That means you can improve the appearance of your skin without changing your facial proportions.
Of course, if your main concern is volume loss, Skinvive isn't going to replace a treatment specifically designed to restore volume. This is why an individual assessment is so important.
How Is Skinvive Treatment Performed?
Skinvive is administered using a series of small injections placed superficially into the skin.
Before treatment, I will assess your skin and discuss exactly what you are hoping to improve.
I use num,bing cream!
The treatment itself is relatively quick, although I never like to rush the preparation or consultation.
You may experience some temporary redness, swelling, small bumps or bruising afterwards. These usually settle, although everyone's response is different.
I will always explain what to expect and give you appropriate aftercare advice.
How Long Does Skinvive Last?
This is another reason Skinvive appeals to many of my patients.
The results from one treatment can last for up to 9 months.
Of course, this is not a guarantee that every individual will experience exactly nine months of results. Everyone's skin, lifestyle and response to treatment are different.
But the fact that one treatment can provide an improvement in skin hydration, smoothness and luminosity for up to nine months makes it a very attractive option.
I would much rather be realistic about what a treatment can achieve than promise that everyone will have exactly the same result.
Who Is Skinvive Suitable For?
Skinvive may be particularly suitable if you are noticing that your skin is:
Looking dull or tired
Less hydrated than it used to be
Lacking luminosity
Rougher in texture
Showing fine lines
Looking less fresh and healthy
Losing that youthful “glow”
It can be a good choice for someone who wants better skin rather than a different face.
It can also fit nicely into a wider skin-rejuvenation plan, depending on what else is happening with your skin.
Skinvive vs Profhilo and Other Skin Boosters
This is where things can become confusing because there are now so many injectable treatments marketed as skin boosters.
Skinvive, Profhilo and other injectable skin treatments are not interchangeable.
They have different formulations, different injection techniques and different treatment aims.
For example, I might recommend Skinvive when the main concern is hydration, smoothness and luminosity.
For another patient, particularly someone with more obvious skin laxity or changes in tissue quality, I might consider Profhilo or another collagen-stimulating treatment.
And for somebody else, a completely different approach may be more appropriate.
There isn't one injectable treatment that is best for everybody.
Why I Like a Personalised Approach
One of the things I have learned over the years is that treating the skin properly means looking beyond the treatment menu.
A patient might come into the clinic and say, “I want Skinvive,” but my job is to make sure it is actually appropriate for them.
I want to know what bothers you about your skin.
Is it dryness?
Dullness?
Fine lines?
Loss of luminosity?
Texture?
Or are you actually noticing a loss of volume or laxity?
Those are very different concerns and they may need very different treatments.
Sometimes Skinvive will be exactly what I recommend.
Sometimes another treatment will give you a better result.
And occasionally, the best advice may be to do nothing at all.
Is Skinvive Right for You?
If you are looking for a treatment that can improve hydration, smoothness and luminosity without adding facial volume, Skinvive is certainly worth considering.
I particularly like it for patients who want a subtle improvement rather than a dramatic transformation.
The skin can look fresher, healthier and more luminous, while your facial features remain completely your own.
And with results that can last up to 9 months from one treatment, it offers a convenient option for maintaining beautiful skin without having to constantly repeat treatments.
At Montclaire Aesthetics in Barnes, I can assess your skin and talk you through whether Skinvive is the right choice for you — or whether another treatment would be more appropriate.
Good aesthetics isn't about changing your face. Sometimes it's simply about giving your skin back some of the hydration, smoothness and luminosity it has lost.
